Knockan Crag Footpath Upgrade.

Knockan Crag is a place of immense geological and cultural significance, offering visitors a stunning glimpse into Scotland’s ancient landscape. As a key stop along the North Coast 500 route, the path network has seen significant foot traffic over the years, leading to erosion that has impacted accessibility and sustainability.

In collaboration with NatureScot, our team undertook a vital footpath upgrade to restore and enhance this well-loved trail. To minimise disruption and preserve the surrounding terrain, we imported 60 tonnes of locally sourced stone and material by helicopter, ensuring the path was reinforced with high-quality resources while protecting the delicate environment.

The upgrade incorporated sections of stone pitching to create a more durable walking surface, effectively blending with the natural landscape. Additionally, we replaced two degraded bridges with dual culverts, improving drainage and reinforcing the stability of the route. These measures not only help prevent future erosion but also provide a more accessible and enjoyable experience for walkers.

Whether visitors come for its breathtaking views or its fascinating geological history, they can now explore the site with greater ease and confidence.
We are proud to support conservation efforts that blend practicality with environmental stewardship, ensuring this remarkable location remains a highlight along the North Coast 500.
